From Wikipedia:

Intentional weight loss refers to the loss of total body mass in an effort to improve fitness and health, and to change appearance.

Therapeutic weight loss, in individuals who are overweight or obese, can decrease the likelihood of developing diseases such as diabetes,[5] heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, osteoarthritis,[6] and certain types of cancer.

Attention to diet in particular can be extremely beneficial in reducing the impact of diabetes and other health risks of an expanding waist.

Weight loss occurs when an individual is in a state of negative energy balance. When the body is consuming more energy (i.e. in work and heat) than it is gaining (i.e. from food or other nutritional supplements), it will use stored reserves from fat or muscle, gradually leading to weight loss.[citation needed]

It is not uncommon for some people who are currently at their ideal body weight to seek additional weight loss in order to improve athletic performance, and/or meet required weight classification for participation in a sport. However, others may be driven by achieving a more attractive body image. Consequently, being underweight is associated with health risks such as difficulty fighting off infection, osteoporosis, decreased muscle strength, trouble regulating body temperature and even increased risk of death.[7]

Nowadays the market is saturated with low-fat, low-carb and sugar-free foods. Despite all the popular diets, “magical” pills and the latest, greatest fitness machines that all promise to melt away the pounds, more than half of American adults are overweight!

For true weight-loss success, health experts really stress the importance of changing your lifestyle for the long term and also exercising regularly. Do you need some creative ways to make fitness fun again and help you win the battle of the bulge once and for all?

* Take “healthy vacations” that means make fitness part of your travels. Head to a spa where, along with a little pampering, you can enjoy hiking, rock climbing, kickboxing, aqua aerobics and yoga.

* Walk or run for a good cause. Training for a 5000 meter charity walk, for example, may be all the motivation you need to get started on a regular fitness routine. Best of all, at the same time you’ll be helping your favorite charity accomplish its goals.

* Dance. Join a ballroom or hip-hop dancing class. It’s a great way to shed the pounds, learn how to dance, sweat and have fun.

* Strip the weight away. New DVDs featuring Carmen Electra help you spice up your regular workout routine and provide a fun new way to tone your body right in the comfort of your own living room.

“Carmen Electra’s Aerobic Striptease” and “Carmen Electra’s Aerobic Striptease – Fit to Strip” are fast becoming wildly popular. With the help of fitness experts, Electra teaches viewers how to trim down with high- and low-impact dance and fitness techniques.

* Do Pilates. Find out what makes Pilates the workout of choice for countless celebrities, and why your gym’s Pilates classes are always full. The “MTV: Pilates Mix” DVD, hosted by renowned Pilates and yoga instructor Kristin McGee, is perfect for those who want to add a more cutting-edge beat to their workout. The DVD features two half-hour workout sessions that focus on toning the arms, legs and abs, with a music mix that motivates you to get up and work out.

The Secret to Fast Weight Loss!

Ever heard of super weight loss foods? Probably not, as most diet plans don’t show you how to use foods to lose weight fast. They only have you count calories, carbs or fat grams. Some foods actually cause your body to burn fat and calories. Let me tell you how eating certain foods can cause weight loss.

Foods like apples, which contain pectin, are extremely effective at raising your metabolism, which in turn burns calories. Other foods like nuts, avocados, whole grains and dairy foods also burn fat. Olive oil, cayenne pepper, ginger, and cinnamon are great for seasoning foods, as they are also super weight loss foods.

Another factor that is very important for fast weight loss is how often you eat, and when. Most people are used to the basic concept of breakfast, lunch and dinner. With the Fat Loss 4 Idiots program, you will find out that it is much more effective to eat smaller portions and eat more often to lose weight. You also don’t experience the hunger associated with most other diets.

With the Fat Loss 4 Idiots program, you can eat foods you love and lose weight very fast! This plan takes you step by step through the whole process of how, when and what to eat in order to train your body to burn fat. Now you know how some people seem to have the ability to eat all day long, and stay “skinny as a rail”. It’s their metabolism.

If this diet had existed a decade ago, there wouldn’t be nearly so many obese people in the world as there are now. This plan is easy, you will never suffer hunger pangs, and you will keep the weight off for good. Sound like a plan? Try the Fat Loss 4 Idiots program and see for yourself how easy it is to lose weight with the power of super weight loss foods!

“However, last night, I listened to your Compulsive Overeating reframing CD…only one session, and today my self esteem is sky high (it’s never been). I don’t have the urge to hurt myself by overeating anymore. My boss (after only one day) has already told me that whatever I’m doing, I need to keep doing it! ….lucky for me, I don’t need to “keep doing” anything!”
Thank you!!!! J. Leigh  – April 2009

“Other programs focus on what you eat. This program focuses on eliminating your appetite. I lost 31 lbs. without having to use willpower or suffer from feelings of hunger, cravings or compulsions. I look and feel great and I love hearing the compliments” — Barry K. – 2006

“I wanted something that would last for the rest of my life. Now I’m never hungry! I’m a more relaxed person as well. I feel that the program is exceptional! It’s worked very well for me. I’ve lost 22 lbs. and I feel great about myself!” – Ken Hill

As a fitness professional I am always on the look for new ideas
and new ways to keep myself and my clients motivated.  I just
finished listening to the “Lose Fat, Not Faith” CDs. I
can safely say that these 5 CDs contain more information
presented in a clear and friendly manner, than any fitness/
self improvement audio I’ve ever listened to.  This program
helps to make sense out of the technical that is discussed.
Actually, it’s explained so well that the technical data
doesn’t seem to be technical data at all.

A lot of the information presented is common sense type stuff.
Things that most overweight Americans have heard before. Jeremy
presents all of this information in a manner that I understood
and actually believed that I could succeed with.

I thought that the CD on nutrition was outstanding. Jeremy
brings a no-nonsense approach to the world of nutrition. He not
only dispells some of the bad information that is floating
around out there, but he doesn’t just poke verbal jabs at them,
he explains them, the basis of them and why these fads/ideas
don’t work. At least long term.

Just when I was about to declare the nutrition CD by far my
favorite, I listened to CD 5 – “The Zen of Releasing Fat”. Wow,
Jeremy hits it out of the ballpark with this one. If everyone
who needs to lose fat is honest with themselves, they will
admit that releasing fat is not completely a physical challenge.
There are many mental and emotional issues wrapped up with it.
For many people, unless you are prepared to deal with the entire
package, you are doomed for failure or at least relapse. Jeremy
speaks on this topic by discussing the demons he had to overcome
and the demons he has seen his clients fight and offers some
logical help in identifying and overcoming your own demons.

This 5 CD set is a MUST for anyone who has struggled with weight,
diet, or self image. It really gets you thinking about the WHY
you want to lose weight, which is the most important step.

WEIGHT LOSS IN ELDERLY PATIENTS WITH PARKINSON’S DISEASE. Birgitta Lorefalt. ABSTRACT. The aim of this thesis was to investigate possible factors concerning. This is reported:

“Objective – Weight loss is reported frequently in patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD). The objective of this study was to find the underlying factors of this phenomenon.

Participants and methods – Twenty-six l-dopa-treated patients with PD and 26 age- and sex-matched healthy controls were assessed twice within a 1-year interval. Body weight, body fat mass, resting energy expenditure, physical activity, energy intake, thyroid hormones and cognitive function were investigated.

Results – Nineteen (73%) of the PD patients lost body weight, although energy intake and the time for rest increased. Weight loss was most marked in patients with more severe PD symptoms and in whom cognitive function had decreased. Multiple regression analyses showed that determinants for weight loss were female gender, age and low physical activity.

Conclusion – Weight loss was common in PD patients, in spite of the increased energy intake and was most obvious in patients with increased PD symptoms and decreased cognitive function.”

With cold, wintry days ahead for many of us, the thought of braving the elements to get to the gym or go for a jog does not sound very alluring. Keeping the motivation to stick to your weight loss goals when the rest of the world wants to hibernate is effortless with hypnotism for weight loss.

Many us who want to lose weight agree that motivation is especially challenging when the weather changes, so what if you could stay committed to your exercise plan and diet simply by viewing a self-hypnosis weight loss DVD or listening to a CD? Better yet, a self-hypnosis weight loss program can reduce your cravings too.

Hypnotism for weight loss works simply, but effectively, by leading you to a state of deep relaxation where your unconscious mind can more readily accept suggestions, such as the ones that will keep you motivated to stay on your fitness track, even in the middle of winter.

It is a fact that if a person exercises, it will speed up his/her metabolism and boost the rate that weight is lost. Some of the most successful hypnosis for exercise motivation techniques comes from Neuro-Linguistic Programming, or NLP. With NLP, the unconscious is programmed to use the same thought processes that are initiating a problem, to eliminate it. Said another way, the same thought processes that the unconscious utilizes to create cravings and oral compulsions could help to completely remove them! And similarly, the same processes can be used to increase your motivation to exercise.

Anchoring is an NLP technique that can be used to give you a “switch” for triggering feelings and behaviors. Creating a hypnosis diet control anchor works simply and effectively like this: A qualified hypnotherapy weight loss practitioner will safely guide you into a tranquil hypnotic state. Then the hypnotherapist will ask you to recall a time when you were happy and excited about anything in your life.

The goal of this exercise is to remember and re-experience as many sensations as possible from different times in your life when you felt eager and motivated to do anything at all. Then, the hypnotherapist will ask you to anchor those feelings by simply touching two fingers together.

Next, you will be asked to visualize yourself exercising and enjoying it. As you create this mental picture, you will trigger your anchor by touching those two fingers together again. When you do that, your unconscious mind will connect the feeling of eagerness and excitement from the other memory to the thought of exercising.

From that point on, any time you need to feel motivated to exercise, you can simply trigger your anchor and re-experience those same encouraging feelings that will motivate you to workout. NLP and weight loss hypnosis can even be helpful to discourage behaviors, so you can easily overcome cravings. That sounds much easier and encouraging than beating yourself up for missing a workout or giving into temptation, doesn’t it?

A successful weight loss hypnosis program will also address the root cause of weight gain for many of us, namely a lack of self-esteem. In a relaxed state, you can be given post-hypnotic suggestions that will build your self-esteem as you lose more weight. The lack of self-esteem is a big reason for being overweight.

A lot of people wonder if, after trying every new diet and purchasing every exercise implement on the market, something as straight forward as weight loss hypnosis can work for them. The good news is that research shows that all normal people are hypnotizable to a greater or lesser extent. However, it is important to note that people with less than a 70 I.Q. or those who are in an active state of psychosis or with senility generally are not hypnotizable.

But for the rest of us, hypnotherapy for weight loss can actually help us look forward to working out and eating healthily. That said, the biggest proponent for victory in any fitness program, whether it incorporates weight loss hypnosis or not, is wanting to achieve your weight loss goals.

On a related note, that is precisely why you can’t force someone to undergo weight loss hypnotherapy simply by giving them suggestions. If someone is opposed to an idea, no amount of weight loss hypnosis they see or hear will take hold. In reference to the NLP explanation above, if someone does not posses a memory of feeling motivated or positive, they can still have success with NLP and hypnotherapy because they can envision what it would feel like if they felt that way, and anchor the imagined feelings.

So, if you’re like many of us and find your motivation diminishing as the days get darker and the temperatures drop, weight loss hypnosis can assist you to regain (or maintain) your eagerness for carrying out and finally realizing your fitness aspirations.

Many of us make health-related resolutions especially in a new year. We make resolutions to lose weight, stop smoking or join the neighborhood health club. It is common to set high goals but experts say that setting smaller goals could do more for your health.

Small steps are achievable and are easier to fit into your daily routine. They are less overwhelming than a big, sudden change.

Here are 10 to try:

1. Stop gaining weight. Even if you gain just a few pounds every year, the extra weight adds up quickly. In ten years it can be 10-20-30-40 pounds!

2. Take more small steps. You can use a pedometer to count your daily steps; then add 2,000 steps which is the equivalent of one extra mile. Then keep adding steps, 1,000 to 2,000 each month or so, until you take 10,000 steps on most days.

3. Eat a good breakfast! Breakfast eaters tend to weigh less and have better diets overall. For a filling and nutrition-packed breakfast, top Whole Grain Total® with fresh fruit slices and milk.

4. Switch three grain servings each day to whole grain.

5. Have at least one green salad every day. Eating a salad is filling and may help you eat less during the meal. It also counts toward your five daily cups of vegetables and fruits.

6. Trim the fat wisely. Fat has a lot of calories, and calories count. Fat takes longer to absorb by your body and that means it will take longer until you get hungry again!

7. Consider calcium by including two or three daily servings of milk or yogurt. Dairy calcium is good for bones and may also help you lose weight.

8. Downsize. The smaller the bag, bottle or bowl, the less you will eat.

9. Lose just 5 to 10 percent of your current weight. The health benefits are huge with lower blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol and triglycerides.

10. Keep track of your eating. Write down what you eat over the next couple of days and look for problem spots. Often, just writing things down can help you eat less.
